Maybe there will be a time at some indeterminate point in the future where I’ve worked out a system to make the art, produce the thing, and be clever about how I handle promoting it, but honestly that last bit is the biggest hurdle. I’m so self-conscious about taking pics and then talking about my work that I try to avoid it as long as possible.
Case in point: I’ve been sitting on these bookmarks for my favourite AU Obi-Wan Kenobi and Jedi Maul for a couple of weeks now. 😅
They’re actually a couple of my favourites that have emerged from The Clone Wars set, which is still in progress (I just finished the art for Aayla Secura today, actually, and I’m trying to work out how to chibi-fy Plo Koon. They’ll be joining the rest of the roster hopefully soon.)
While we’ve never seen Obi-Wan fall to the dark side, it’s a trope that I really like seeing explored in fic and in other people’s art: Kenobi swag au max. Or, like, Kenobi giving into the numerous feelings that test his strength and conviction as a Jedi. I love it. On whole I love the concept of “the fall” but especially with a character like Obi-Wan who is so lawful good as a Jedi — or in the very least, lawful neutral — because even Obi-Wan has his moments where the strength of his convictions are tested, and I like asking the question, “What would it take for someone like him to truly descend to the Dark Side?”
As for Jedi Maul… his look is inspired by his brief appearance as a brown-eyed babe of a Jedi in Star Wars: Age of Republic. Maul never turns. Not for realsies. But he huffs the ashes of the fallen on Malachor and has a vision of himself as a Jedi, and for me that’s enough to go all heart-eyed all over again.
